Data usage is kept track of and updated live when you use the usage tracker!
There are a few things that can make data usage show up a little differently for some users and devices. The most common are listed here:
- Backup internet device with an uptime or health monitor. This would be a cellular modem connected to an enterprise-grade router like FortiGate (Fortinet) with SD-WAN checking link health where it is checking the connection 24/7/365 with a ping or DNS check. When this constant data use activity is being done there is a lag in data usage that will show. The data is updated every 12 hours rolling from when the constant activity happened as it compounds over time. (other names of link health checkers: Network Watchdog, Watchdog)
- Backup internet device without health monitoring. This would be a failover-only device (cold failover), where there are no connections established until there is a loss of the main connection then the router/modem starts the SIM card connection and changes traffic over to that. The data usage jump will remain at almost 0 GB used each month unless there is usage, but usage will update no longer than 24 hours after the failover and can cause you to have overages if you do not have a large plan. But that is the use case of cold backup internet and to keep business flowing even with an outage.
The ICCID the tracker asks for is the SIM card number you want to check, or if you have pooled data plans you can enter your pool ID from the portal under the plans.
